POSITION SUMMARY:  
The Director of Family Barn Operations is a key leadership position that is responsible for the management of all Family Barn activities and operations, with its related amenities and programs, as well as proactively engaging with the membership. It is a highly visible position that must have an outgoing, vibrant, and positive energy that creates goodwill among the members, their guests, our fellow Ambassadors, and the local community. 
This position will actively communicate and positively interact with and support other department heads on the events and activities of the Family Barn. Strong leadership, inspiration, contagious enthusiasm, and leadership skills are required, along with a "hands-on" approach to all aspects of the Family Barn operations. Supported by the Senior Director of Operations, the Director of Family Barn Operations will complete and adhere to the annual budget, finalize and support annual programming, and approve staff hires for all areas of the Family Barn operation.  

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Plan, manage, and provide a friendly yet professional Family Barn experience with an emphasis on gracious service and hospitality, creative expression, exceptional member accommodation, meticulous preparation, and presentation.
  • Foster a superior, anticipatory service attitude and presentation within the staff, with an understanding that a welcoming and friendly interaction and a “can do” attitude is a guiding philosophy.
  • Manage the year-round operations of the Family Barn focusing primarily on two distinct seasons.
Summer: Seasonal camps and youth programming, parks and pool operations, movie theatre, bowling alley use, art and education, trails hiking, Aerial Adventure Park, e-bike rentals and support food & beverage services when appropriate.
Winter: Indoor events, movie theater use, sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, pickleball courts, hot tubs and support food and beverage services when appropriate.
 
  • Support the Folk School Manager in creating and directing the operations of the "Art Loft".
  • Support the Youth Programming Manager in creating and directing a robust and dynamic summer camp offering and other seasonal programming.
  • Support the Recreation Manager in the maintenance and operation of all Family Barn-related amenities and experiences.
  • Hire, motivate, manage, and coach summer and winter staffing for the Family Barn to include the Folk School and Art programs, Aquatics, Recreation, Youth Programming, and other activities. 
  • Manage the operations of the Park Pavilion, Springs Pavilion, Creekside Pavilion, Lost Library, Concert Park Lake, e-bike, Aerial Adventure and Nordic/ Snowshoe programming.
  • Work with the Events and Entertainment Manager on planning, coordinating, and executing club events, including July 4th Celebration and Cart Parade, Summer Concert Series, Holiday Tree Lighting, Festival of Lights, New Year’s Eve, Gingerbread Competition, Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt, and other outdoor performances.
  • Participate, promote, and share the Martis Camp ethos with the surrounding communities, with an emphasis on youth, education, environmental stewardship, and goodwill.
  • Produce, oversee, and provide the content for the summer and winter calendar of events as it relates to Family Barn programming.
  • Provide information and proof content for monthly newsletters and weekly eblasts.
  • Create and inspire an annual program of Martis Camp member events, hikes, tours, and information based on the four seasons of the Sierra mountains and region.
  • Monitor and control department expenses and payroll. Understand the business side of the Family Barn department.
  • Be a source of information on the local scene of where to go, what to do, and when to do it; create a list of local guides and providers for outdoor mountain activities.
  • Confer with the Senior Director of Operations in reviewing activities, operations, sales, expenses, and variance reports to determine changes in programs or operations required.
  • Work with and support the efforts of the Martis Camp Community Foundation in its programs and fund-raising events associated with the Martis Camp Club.

  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).

  • The ability to consistently define and achieve goals and objectives.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Hospitality Management or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of management experience in a high-end resort, private club, food and beverage, or youth-oriented recreation operations preferred.
  • Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods and perform tasks that require bending, stooping, kneeling, bending, twisting, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, sitting, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.

    Wage Range: $100,000 - $120,000 annually
