POSITION SUMMARY:  
Do you love kids and spending time outdoors? We are looking for amazing camp leaders to join our program this summer. The lead camp counselor is responsible for serving as the primary contact between the Family Activities Coordinator and Camp Counselors. We are looking for a strong leader to facilitate the day-to-day programming for both outdoor nature-based and interest-based specialty youth camps. Our lead counselors will be positive and create a fun environment for members and ambassadors while being responsible for the general safety and development of 6 to 10 summer campers aged 4 to 15 years old.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Must love the outdoors, positive leadership, and kids
  • Provide supervision, instruction, and ongoing assistance to camp counselors
  • A strong, positive leader who can manage 2-4 counselors and up to 15-30 kids per group
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism
  • Responsible for seamless, safe, and fun field trips off-property
  • Assign/oversee staff tasks (set up/take down of equipment/supplies, opening/closing, etc.)
  • Maintain a current inventory of supplies and assist the Family Activities Coordinator with ordering.
  • Ability to coach children in behavior protocols
  • Responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of campers
  • Lead, engage, and implement program curriculum, activities, and experiences.
  • Maintain a level of professionalism while encouraging a fun, playful, and positive camp environment.
  • Provide a daily experience of inclusion and support for both camp counselors and camper.s
  • Closely supervise children during all activities, including lunch, field trips, and walking to and from events, knowing where all members of your group are always.
  • Meet and communicate with parents and guardians during  check-in and check-out
  • Ensure the safety of the facility and equipment during your preparation for all activities.
  • Ensure that all camp locations are clean and trash-free before leaving for the day.
  • Ensure that every child leaves with an authorized person as indicated by camper check-in and checkout forms provided
  • Be willing and ready to help any outside vendor or instructor with their program.
  • Report and document all emergency or injury situations to the  Family Activities Coordinator and/or YouthPrograms Manager.
  • Communicate constantly and openly with the Youth Programs Manager and Family Activities Coordinator, fellow counselors, and other ambassadors.
  • Attend all trainings and meetings.
  • Provide support for all daily Family Barn operations
  • Performing other appropriate tasks as assigned while maintaining professional composure
  • Be drug and alcohol-free while on property and during hours of employment

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1-2 years of experience working with children.
  • Ability to interact and develop positive relationships within the organization.
  • Maintain high ethical and moral standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and guest service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • 18+ years old
  • CPR and Lifeguard Certified preferred (training may be available upon hire)
  • Outdoor experience is a plus

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES:
  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 1 year in a youth-related position
  • First Aid/CPR/AED preferred (course may be available upon hire)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (with or without accommodations)
  •  Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  •  Ability to sit for up to 3 hours at a time
  • Ability to to be exposed to sun and other outdoor elements for up to 3 hours at a time
  •  Ability to walk and stand up to 3 hours at a time
  • Ability to run, jump, and swim
  •  Ability to safely bend, kneel, twist, grip, and carry as part of the above duties  

WAGE RANGE: $24.50 - $26.50 per hour
