POSITION SUMMARY  

Summer Camp Counselors support the successful delivery of Martis Camp’s Summer Camp program by providing energetic, attentive, and caring supervision for campers. Counselors work under the direction of the Summer Camp Lead and Youth Programs Manager, helping facilitate activities, prepare materials, oversee transitions, and maintain a safe, joyful, and engaging camp environment. This role is highly interactive and member-facing, requiring enthusiasm, professionalism, and a genuine love of working with children.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES  

PROGRAM FACILITATION
• Lead or assist with crafts, group games, nature-based activities, and summer-themed projects as directed by the Camp Lead.
• Participate fully in all daily activities, modeling enthusiasm, teamwork, and curiosity.
• Help create a fun, inclusive environment that encourages creativity, connection, and summer adventure.
• Step in to oversee campers when the Camp Lead is on breaks or temporarily off-site.

CHILD SUPERVISION & SAFETY
• Supervise children during all activities, ensuring safety, engagement, and inclusion at all times.
• Support positive behavior using age-appropriate guidance and redirection techniques.
• Monitor campers during transitions, restroom breaks, meals, and all movement between camp locations.
• Provide appropriate support during routine childcare needs (accidents, spills, emotional upsets, summer-weather concerns).
• Uphold all youth safety policies, boundaries, and emergency procedures.

CAMP OPERATIONS & SUPPORT
• Assist with daily camp setup and cleanup, including preparing materials, organizing spaces, and sanitizing equipment.
• Prepare and distribute snacks; support with lunch facilitation; and monitor mealtimes for safety and cleanliness.
• Help maintain organized, stocked, and safe activity spaces throughout the day.
• Support special instructors or vendors assisting with summer programming.
• Communicate promptly with the Camp Lead regarding supply needs, camper concerns, or incidents.

MEMBER & PARENT COMMUNICATION
• Greet families warmly during check-in and check-out, supporting smooth and friendly transitions.
• Communicate daily highlights or concerns to parents as directed by the Camp Lead.
• Represent Martis Camp’s hospitality standards through warm, professional, and courteous interactions.

TEAM COLLABORATION & CULTURE 
• Work collaboratively with the Youth Programs Manager, Family Barn team, Lead Counselor, and other Ambassadors to ensure consistent and high-quality service.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and seasonal orientations.
• Help maintain a positive, professional, and team-centered work culture.
• Support Recreation, Folk School, and other Family Barn departments as needed.
• Uphold Martis Camp’s values of excellence, integrity, and genuine hospitality in all work.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS: 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• CPR & First Aid Certification (will be provided during training).
• Previous experience working with children in camps, education, recreation, or childcare.
• Ability to supervise and engage children safely and attentively.
• Friendly, energetic, and approachable demeanor with strong communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively under the direction of the Summer Camp Lead.
• Ability to remain flexible, upbeat, and calm in fast-paced or changing situations.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in summer, high altitude conditions
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Must be available for all Summer Camp dates and trainings.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
• Experience in summer recreation, group activities, or outdoor play supervision preferred.
• Familiarity with luxury service standards or experience in high-end hospitality environments preferred.
• Additional certifications—such as Child Safety Training, Youth Mental Health First Aid, Lifeguard certification, or Wilderness First Aid—are considered a plus.

WAGE AND BENEFITS:
